Western Resources, KS
(Field Inventory)

Field Data Services, Inc. inventoried approximately 200,000 poles in four Districts. This project consisted of editing existing electrical distribution system maps to reflect current field conditions. The primary and secondary electrical systems were checked from the substation fence to the meter. We delivered paper source maps with corrected and added attribute information. In addition, we created a relational database to describe and warehouse the electrical model and associated attribute information. The deliverable was extracted from the database in ASCII format and contained an encoded connectivity trail. We completed this project in December of 1996. The second project involved a verification of existing electrical sources and pole tagging. This project was completed in 1998.

St. Joseph Light and Power, MO
(Field Inventory)

This project consisted of an inventory of the primary and secondary system operated by St. Joseph Light and Power. The project included collecting all information needed to describe the link between transformers and the meters served by each. St. Joseph Light and Power Company provided a digital landbase, which was used as the base map for the scratch drawings of the facilities. FDSI acted as a subcontractor for Michael Baker Jr. in this project. The original schedule called for completion of 63,000 poles in April 1996. The project was completed in October 1996 due to an unanticipated 50% increase in the number of poles.

Florida Power And Light
(Field Inventory)

FDSI inventoried 196,000 poles and underground points for FPL in the City of Miami, Dade County. The facilities serve 800,000 customers. The inventory included the complete primary system connectivity with phasing, and wire descriptions. The project emphasized collecting extensive pole and equipment attributes. The products of the field inventory were hand drawn maps of the system and information files in dBase. The data format on the host equipment was GFIS. FDSI was a sub-contractor for Underhill Geographic Systems, Inc., who did the GFIS conversion. The project was rescheduled due to Hurricane Andrew. FDSI completed the new schedule on time and within budget.

Iowa Electric Light And Power Company
(Field Inventory)

FDSI conducted an inventory to verify primary connectivity including phasing, wire size and material. Primary devices and limited attributes were also inventoried, as were the secondary conductors, services and meter locations. We collected meter numbers when required. The product was a set of marked-up maps. The project was completed on time and within budget.

Iowa-Illinois Gas And Electric Company
(Field Inventory)

FDSI conducted an inventory to determine connectivity of primary circuits including wire size, material and phasing. Primary devices were also inventoried. The secondary conductor, services and meter locations were verified. Input for the inventory was a set of landbase plots with pole locations drawn from aerial photos. Outputs were the same plots updated with a hand drawn version of the system keyed to dBase files containing the data. The project was completed on time after adjustments for an increase in the scope of the work in one division of 67%.

Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company
(Field Inventory)

FDSI completed a pilot project to field check distribution maps for CG&E. The circuits in ten square miles were involved. The data and graphics obtained from the field were prepared for entry into an IBM GFIS system. The pilot included showing the approximate location of poles on the landbase. FDSI drew the primary circuits and noted phasing, descriptions of wire, primary devices and pole attributes. FDSI drew in the secondary and service conductor, its size and type on the source plots and noted the link between addresses and transformers.
